Doctor Who's Done

Well, I'm done! Kinda sorta done, I mean. I fulfilled my order, and that means done. A couple of years ago I made a full set of Doctor Who doctors with the TARDIS and the Doctors 1-11. The same client that ordered them asked me to make a set of Companions and Villains to go along with them. These are some fans, y'all, and I can't blame them. There are some really cool characters on Doctor Who so she named off all of her favorites and I went to work. I finished the dolls in time for Christmas and now the patterns are all done too!

Doctor Who Companions and Villains Amigurumi Set

I have all of them listed on Ravelry and Etsy individually, and there are now two sets you can buy: The Doctors and the TARDIS set, and the Companions and Villains set. These sets are enormous. They have lots and lots of photos, illustrations, a list of yarn for each doll, and should be easy to follow. Here are some photos.

Anyone missing here? I've had several requests for Martha, so I'll probably do one of her some time in the future. What else can you think of? I feel like I've given the Doctor a pretty thorough treatment (ha see what I did there?), but I'm always open to suggestions!

K-9!

Since I started doing Doctor Who amigurumi, I have gotten requests for K-9. He presented a challenge to me, and I love doing people, so I kind of put him off. But if I could make a big boxy TARDIS, I thought I could definitely handle doing a little robotic dog.

I used several of the same techniques in making K-9 as I did for the TARDIS. If you own that pattern, you probably will see what I mean. I have to get really technical planning these out! There is a ton of measuring, sketching, really mapping, to get it how I want it. I can crochet in the round for days and not even give it a second thought when it comes to writing out a pattern, but the geometric shapes I have to do for these guys gets a little complicated.

Lucky for you, you don't have to do any of that math. I wrote up the pattern for K-9 and took tons and tons of photos so he should be relatively simple. I hope you like him. I think he's pretty cute, for a robot.

Twelfth Doctor Who

When I started sketching out my second set of Doctor Who dolls, the costume that Peter Capaldi would be wearing as the 12th Doctor had not been released. In his first appearance he had been regenerated from Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor, so had the same clothes. Last week the BBC released photos of the new Doctor's wardrobe and I have to say, I'm really digging it. Although there's no fun knitwear for fans to recreate, there is a real element of cool to his simple Crombie coat and brogues.

The War Doctor is Here!

Last year around this time, I was releasing my huge set of Doctor Who patterns. I took a custom order for Christmas and was thrilled to make a complete set of Doctor Who dolls, starting with the First Doctor way back from the 60s, to the then-current Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. Together with the TARDIS, the patterns have been really fun for lots of Whovians!

Starting out the new year, I've been commissioned to make another epic set of Doctor Who dolls! In no specific order, they will all be releasing one at a time in the coming months and will include:

Susan (First Doctor's granddaughter)
Sarah Jane (in her red and white overalls)
K-9 (because how can I the collection be complete without a robotic dog, I ask??)
Rose (so many requests for her!)
Captain Jack (and so many requests for Captain Jack Harkness, from Torchwood fans too!)
Donna (and fans of The Office can pretend she's Nelly)
Rory (planning to do his Roman Centurion outfit)
Amy (short shorts and boots of course)
River (and I'm excited to do her hair!)

Weeping Angel (can I blink at all while I make this??)

and finally, the War Doctor!

Spoiler alert! I've already made him! The pattern has been released today, and he was really fun to do. John Hurt is an amazing actor and I love how this Doctor has so much character, from his faux hawk down to his half-gaiters (did you know those boot cover thingys are called half-gaiters??). He's got a lot of detail which is really fun to do (my favorite part of making AmiguruME dolls...) and I can't wait to see people start posting pictures of their War Doctors on my Facebook page or Ravelry.

Doctor Who Patterns!

They're done! At long last, or so it seemed to me, I've completed the patterns for my Doctor Who collection. All together, the PDF for the complete set is almost 100 pages, so get ready! I think you'll find them easy to follow, since that's the kind of pattern I like to read myself. Doctor Who Collection Completion!

So after months of preparation and weeks and weeks of work, I finally finished the set of Doctor Who dolls and Tardis I was commissioned to make! I really truly enjoyed making these guys and I swear, I almost teared up when I packed them all up and shipped them to Washington state. There is a lucky husband out there with a wife who loves him (and Doctor Who) a lot!
